Chinese Kenbo Bikes Smuggling in India
Kenbo Bikes has been highly popular in Manipur due to it's cost effective pricing. With limited horsepower and speed of no more than 80 kilometers per hour, China-made Kenbo125 motorbikes may appear to be toys compared to the more established and better-known motorcycles in the market.
Recently several police raids in various areas against the rioters resulting in seizing many Kenbo Bikes used for the purpose to spread the riots . Areas like Ukhrul and Kamjong Districts are major hubs for the dumping of these bikes. These Kenbo bikes are illegally brought from Myanmar for the purpose to transport poppy seeds and drugs in narrow and stiff terrains. More than 50 percent bikes were from this brand that were seized from the raids.
These Kenbo bikes are already banned in Manipur but for cost saving people use these bikes in their daily cores. The cost of bikes after illegal import is Rs. 25000 and spare parts are easily available at local garage due to wide use of these bikes in Manipur. These 125cc engines bikes are produced in Yunan province of China and then imported to Thailand and thenn in Myanmar in form of complete knockdown kits further illegally imported and assembled in Manipur by local dealers. The second hand Kenbo biked imported illegally are even available at a cost of Rs 10000 to Rs 15000 only. These all bikes are operated without any registration hence makes it difficult to track down by the administration.
As per the reports 350 to 400 Kenbo bikes are illegally imported every year from Myanmar to India.
